I started my professional career in 2018 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I worked in state for 6 years where I worked in a tertiary health setting seeing a variety of patients in both an in-patient and out-patient setting. Over the years I worked closely with specialist doctors and surgeons, specifically in the field of orthopaedic rehabilitation pre and post surgery. After about a year in state, I branched out to gain some private health experience and worked in private practice on a Locum basis for the last 4 years, thereby gaining the best of both worlds.

Working in South Africa, there was always a natural love for community and it has always been a priority to strive for excellent patient care within a system that was so strained. I therefore make it an effort to always learn more and to give the best patient centred treatment while taking on a partnership role with my patients to obtain the best possible return to function.

Outside work, I love cooking and baking, and time spent exploring. On a good you’d find me at the beach lazing the day away. Generally I enjoy time spent with friends and family. My sport of choice is dancing, I was actually classically trained in ballet and ballroom dancing throughout my primary and high school career, which is actually where my love for physiotherapy started due to my own personal dance injuries.

Mike is an Otago University graduate hailing from Lower Hutt. He is an experienced physiotherapist having been working in private practice in Wellington for close to 8 years now. He has a strong interest in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and sports medicine, stemming from his passion for all of the sports he plays including basketball, touch, surfing and volleyball amongst many others. He is proud of his Chinese heritage and gives back to the Chinese community through his involvement with the Dragons Sports and Social Club throughout the year.

Mike was working with Wellington College as well as spending time working with Orthopaedic surgeons at Bowen Hospital prior to joining North City Physiotherapy. He has been involved in Wellington rugby union, rugby 7’s and is the current Wellington Rugby Academy Physiotherapist. He provides his services to other Hurriacne and Wellington teams as required, and at times gets called up to look after the Hurricanes themselves.

When work is over, Mike enjoys three main things; sport, socialising and family time. Team sports such as basketball, touch and volleyball are just a few of the sports he loves playing. Socialising is best done over drinks, feeds and board games. A strong family structure including multiple family dinners every week keeps him in touch with his roots and his belly full!
